Day 2 summarizes some of our experiences during the first three to four months following the launch of our new business. From the moment that my husband and I decided that this is what we wanted to do, we embraced our new focus. The first important step was our approach. This step is actually one which many new entrepreneurs tend to overlook. It is the preparation of a business plan.
You see, whether you plan to go local or go big, you should always begin with this step. Many persons start off with the wrong approach and the wrong mindset, especially if it is a work-from home or online business. However, whether you are launching an online business, training courses or a small enterprise; it is essential that you adopt the right approach.
Your Approach ...
Beginning with a business plan is an essential step in business, as is taught in any business training program. Amongst many other components, a business plan gives you great clarity on the service or product that you are going to provide; your targeted customers; how you will meet their needs; the resources that you require; analysis of your market and competitors and even your mission and vision statement. Going through these steps help you to be better prepared and focused from the onset.
Many entrepreneurs also ignore the preparation of their mission and vision statements. However, having a clear mission and vision ensures that every decision that you make will be aligned with your mission and vision for your business.
The mission at Peak Living with Mel is to provide one on one or group coaching to help people attain their desired life goals. We do this through personal connection and engaging tools, within a core values and ethical framework. Whilst our vision, is empowering people to transform their lives and live a rewarding, happy and successful life! Hence, going forward, every program that we design, every training that we prepare and every book or resource that we write; will be focused on empowering people to make the right decisions and adopt transformational tools, to have a more rewarding and successful life.
One way by which we at Peak Living with Mel will ensure that such standards are maintained is through our core values.
We are guided by six core values. These include:
Diligence – We believe in sound research to assure a firm foundation and support. We also value punctuality and feedback.
Impact – We focus on both quality processes and outcomes. We see obstacles and challenges as opportunities.
Organized – We do not like chaos and we have an organized process for everything.
Compassionate – We are understanding because we have been in the hole ourselves.
Creative – We enjoy writing and creating programs, plans and resources.
Authentic – We believe in being true to ourselves and authentic in all our business dealings
Some persons may wonder, why not wait until you’re a bigger business to do all these things?
However, the problem with this approach is by then, we would have adopted bad habits and practices which would become difficult to change. So, from the onset, start with the right approach.
My husband and I attended an affiliate marketing workshop and a young woman said to me: “I have been doing affiliate marketing for a while on amazon and a have made some good money. But, I never saw it as a business”. She was so shocked at the presenter’s success. Why? It is because he approached it as a business from the onset.
Another essential benefit of preparing a business plan is that you are required to assess the skills and competencies of the individuals engaged in the business. By so doing, you are clear on your strengths and weaknesses. You will then be able to make sound decisions on tasks that you are able to do and those that you will outsource or delegate.
Additionally, you will also be able to devise a training plan to further develop requisite skills set.
How did we do this?
Well, we performed a SWOT Analysis. We determined our strengths and weaknesses. Our opportunities are those skills sets that have a direct advantage to achieving business goals. The threats are the skills which need to be develop in order to fulfil our business responsibilities.
Of course, there are many other tools out there that you can use. However, the goal here is to demonstrate the importance of adopting the right approach from the onset.
So, tell me my dear reader, have you been considering starting a business?
Or, are you already in business?
Have you written a business plan and assessed your skills?
If not, it is not too late to sit down and get your business in focus. Write your business plan, perform your marketing and competitor analysis; choose your avatar and assess your skills.
Do not ignore these stages, for they are key foundational steps to business growth and success.
Thanks for reading and see you on Day 3.
Go ahead and make your contribution to society!
Remember that you are awesome!
Peace and love from Peak Living with Mel!
